VID: Desert Rose [Heroes]
I've always loved this song; when it popped up on my iTunes playlist a few days after "Fallout" aired, I realized that not only did it mesh pretty well with the show's musical tone, but it had a fair bit going for it lyrically, too. And I'd been itching to take Final Cut Express for a spin for months -- it was just that pesky school thing that kept getting in the way.

So consider this How I Spent My Christmas Vacation, by Beth CG Phoenix, age 22 3/24. Many thanks to [info]shati for the beta.

Lyrics:

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in pain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of fire
Those dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
And in the flames
Her shadows play in the shape of a man's desire

This desert rose
Each of her veils, a secret promise
This desert flower
No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this

And as she turns
This way she moves in the logic of all my dreams
This fire burns
I realize that nothing's as it seems

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in pain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

I dream of rain
I lift my gaze to empty skies above
I close my eyes, this rare perfume
Is the sweet intoxication of her love

I dream of rain
I dream of gardens in the desert sand
I wake in pain
I dream of love as time runs through my hand

Sweet desert rose
This memory of Eden haunts us all
This desert flower, this rare perfume
Is the sweet intoxication of the fall

I love this song as well, and really enjoyed how you mixed both the ethereal and intellectual parts of Heroes with it...books, notes, files, computer data, paintings, etc., intercut with the heroes themselves and most especially the drifting shots of Peter and flying. Very nice contrast. And I loved the instrumental bridge (starting around 2:30) paired up with the big showdown with Sylar.

Thank you! I was hoping that dual approach/contrast would work well; I'm so glad to hear it did. And I had far too much fun doing the instrumental bridge. ;)

Very nicely done! Quality of the files is excellent, for one, and I like what to me appears to be the Peter-centric focus leading throughout. The transitions are seamless and don't detract from the overall feel of the vid, even contributing to it nicely with combined images.

Yay. :) Added to my "keep these" vid folder.

Wow, I love the *story* you told here. With the searching, and the quest for answers. The use of *information* is brilliant: the notes, the list, the book...

You matched the music perfectly. Very cool.

Sigh. LJ, tell me when people leave comments on my posts.

Anyway, thank you! :D This is the first time I really tried to consciously tell a story in a vid, so it's great to hear that it came through.

This is really a brilliant video! There's real movement and momentum coupled with some great choices of source material. Is it too much to ask if you have any other video ideas? I was just very impressed with this one and am interested in seeing what else you have in mind.

Thank you so much! I do have a few other ideas that've been kicking around; there's a Sylar vid I started sketching out recently, but probably won't be able to finish until the spring just because he's got maybe thirty minutes of screentime to his name right now. I've also got a few vid outlines for other fandoms that've sat on my hard drive for months and months, waiting to be put together. With any luck, I'll have enough free time to make them soon. *g* It's fun!

This is amazing, beautiful, accomplished work. I am completely blown away by the way it moves, the amount of detail, the subtle effects work... just an amazing video encompassing all the important events of the first half of the season. You rock! :D

Oooh, I haven't gotten around to watching Heroes yet, but this vid was just so cool. Very, very pretty.

Even though I didn't really know what was going on. I have a general idea though.

I've heard nothing but good things about Heroes. One day I'll check it out.

Great vid.

You brought all the separate scenes together and edited them so well. The pacing builds the anticipation, which is supremely paid off by the awesome. There’s a great use of the source with the seemingly separate things that you pull together. I especially love the moment around 2:16 where Peter goes off the building and he fades into the water.

Oh, so great! And unexpected; I kind of squinted at the song, in a "really? Are you sure?" kind of way--not sure why--but it's perfect, the thrumming of desire through the whole thing.

Alright, I gave LOL I have seen so many people pimping this clip I thought I should see what they were all talking about. Sadly the only download link I could get working where the clip was actually there was megaupload.

I have to say that that video was superbly edited and beautifully layered. Seriously, I am in awe of the patience you must have to cut and rearrange so many clips. The last vid I did I remember saying to a friend of mind I was thankful Heroes did half the work for me because it would take forever to do that, but you did and made a wonderfully exquisite piece out of it. It is worth all the pimping *nods* well done.

Very very good editing it was great I just don't care for the song at all. I don't think it fits and I don't really like it on it's own either but the editing was amazing and the creativity of it was great.

Wow! For such a lyrical, melancholy vid, this had a lot of suspense as well. I don't tend to think of Issac, Mohinder, and Peter's journeys as similar, but this vid shows me how blind I've been.

Well done!!!!

Oh, I love this! It's so fantastic. Desert Rose is a song you wouldn't think would mesh well with fanvids, but it's one of those styles that can be done horribly or just blown out of the water. I can't say how amazing I think this is :)
